Police on Saturday arrested the man, who was allegedly behind a series of lorry thefts in the rural areas of Tiruchy. Police also recovered four lorries from the man at Pettaivaithalai here.

Andavan (42) used to steal parked lorries from Lalgudi, Manachanallur, Siruganur and Pettaivaithalai areas and put them up for rent or sell them and used the money to lead a lavish life.

However, he ran out of luck during a recent vehicle check when he was driving a stolen lorry. On being intercepted by police, Andavan abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee.

However, he was nabbed. Interrogation revealed that he was the person behind the series of lorry thefts reported in the area.

Police said Andavan, a  resident of Melur in Srirangam, used to make duplicate keys  of the vehicles before striking. He had an associate, Madheswaran (50). A case was registered and hunt was on for his associate.

The police later recovered four lorries from him. He was produced before a court and later lodged in the Central prison here.
