Jaya Fulfils Vow, Dedicates Gold Armour to Thevar Idol
AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday said her party is committed to the ideals espoused by Mukkulathor icon Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, and sought the support of the community towards this end in the days to come.
Jayalalithaa’s statement came at the memorial of the deceased Thevar icon in his native Pasumpon village, after she dedicated gold armour for his statue.
The presentation of the armour, totalling up to 13 kg, is a fulfilment of the promise she made while paying floral tributes to the leader, on the occasion of Thevar Jayanthi in 2010.
She dedicated four pieces, to cover the head, chest and legs of the statue of Muthuramalinga Thevar, which depicts him sitting in a meditative posture.
“Spiritualism, nationalism, sovereignty, the opposition of authoritarianism and non-Congress rule were his main ideals. These are the very ideologies we have been following. The day is not far away when, with your support, we have to uphold these ideals of Thevar Thirumaganar,” said Jayalalithaa, addressing a massive crowd that had assembled to witness the dedication ceremony.
“I pray you support us in these goals now, when their time has come,” she told them.
Jayalalithaa heaped rich praise on Muthuramalinga Thevar, recalling his contributions to the country’s freedom struggle, his role as a Parliamentarian of the
All India Forward Bloc and his contribution to the welfare of the people and the working class. The ceremony saw the participation of various top functionaries of the AIADMK, ministers of the Jayalalithaa cabinet and representatives of the various wings of the party.
