Observing that every child has the right to education in their mother tongue and no child should be denied learning in their mother language, the Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) sought an Action Taken Report from the Education Department based on its earlier order.

Earlier, a Division Bench comprising Justices R Sudhakar and V S Velumani directed the Education Department to prepare question papers in Malayalam for the board exams to the Class XI and Class XII of Sree Devi Girl’s HSS, which approached the court to allow them to write their exams in their mother tongue, Malayalam.

When the case was taken for hearing on Tuesday, the judge warned that any deviation (by the authorities) in the (court’s) order will be dealt with seriously.
