Teenager Held for Murder of Tiruchy Nurse

A 19-year-old polytechnic student was arrested on Monday here in connection with the rape and murder of a nurse.

A 19-year-old polytechnic student was arrested on Monday here in connection with the rape and murder of a nurse.

The police said, C Nandini (21) of Maruthupatti near Valanadu in Manapparai had been working as a nurse in a private hospital at Iluppur in Pudukkottai district.

On February 9, around 7 pm, while Nandini was waiting to board a bus to her native village, after completing her work in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Suresh (19) (Name changed), a native of Maruthupatti and a relative of Nandini, who passed through that area offered her a lift to her village on his motorcycle.

It is said, Suresh has been studying first year Mechanical engineering diploma in a private polytechnic college at Illuppur and he was staying at his uncle’s house to attend his college.

While they were on way to their village in the night, Suresh who was in an inebriated mood attempted to molest her but  Nandini refused to yield. Suddenly,  Suresh attempted to rape her and in the tiff, Nandini fell down and became unconscious.

A shocked Suresh removed her churidhar bottom and shawl and strangled her to death.

Fearing arrest, he pulled the body and abandoned it in a sugarcane farm and fled.

Passers by found a body with injuries across the body at a sugarcane field. The dress was torn in many places and the hands were tied backward with the shawl.

Soon, the people passed the information to Valanadu police who rushed to the spot. They identified the body, which was later sent to the Manapparai GH for post mortem.

The police after a thorough investigation arrested the boy and produced him before the Manapparai court. He was later sent to Borstal School in Pudukkottai.
