A field level drive to enrol eligible beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s  Comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme has been launched here in all the taluks across the district. It was inaugurated by Collector Dr Nanthagopal on Wednesday at Ariyur Kuppam village near here.

District coordinator of the scheme G Syed Ali said the scheme that was launched in the State in the year 2012 had covered around 86 per cent of the eligible beneficiaries in the district. While 7.43 lakh families had enrolled in the scheme, 7.37 lakh had received the insurance cards.

Hitherto, the enrolment was being done at the scheme office at the collectorate. While this had helped around 3,875 families to receive  coverage under the scheme, a survey conducted by the office had revealed that another 2 lakh eligible families could be covered under the scheme. These families would be covered through this special field level drive. “We have started the drive in Vellore taluk and it would be extended to all other taluks in the district subsequently,” Syed Ali added.
