Dravida Parayar Munnetra Kazhagam, a Dalit welfare organisation, staged a novel protest against Valentine’s Day celebrations by distributing sarees to young women wearing western outfits near Chennai Citi Centre in Mylapore, here on Friday.

The protesters led by the outfit’s functionaries R G Rajasekar and Johnson, gathered near the shopping mall’s gate and approached women who were wearing western outfits.

The protesters alleged that the youth here have become attracted to western culture which is devastating for Tamil culture and heritage. The protesters were removed by police within 10 minutes.
