Four days after a 9-month-old baby boy went missing from the bus stand in Gudiyattam town, the baby was found near Gangai Amman Temple in the town on Thursday night. The police rescued the child and handed him over to his mother.

Bhavani (22), wife of Savadi Murugan (alias) Murugan and a resident of Bhuvaneswaripettai, lodged a complaint with the Gudiyattam Town police stating that her son Harish went missing since February 9. Though she said the child was missing since February 9, Bhavani approached the police on February 11, hoping to find her son.

Bhavani, in her complaint, said she was waiting at the bus stand to catch a bus home  on Sunday afternoon. After her son started to cry for milk, she went to buy milk in a nearby shop, leaving him behind. She was shocked to see her child missing when she returned from the shop.

Bhavani, searched in and around the bus stand, but in vain. She rushed back to her house to inform her parents and relatives and seek their help to locate her son.

However, after their effort too ended in failure, they approached the police.

Registering a case of child missing, the police conducted an inquiry with the shopkeepers, auto drivers in and around the bus stand. “We doubt Harish’s mother as she tried to fabricate a story to cover up her intention to sell the baby.

Last week, Bhavani had approached one of her neighbours and asked her whether she wanted her son for `1 lakh,” said a police officer. Bhavani’s husband Murugan, was a historys heeter lodged in the prison in connection with a robbery case.

After the police intensified the inquiry, the police received information from the public that a small boy child was abandoned by some unidentified person near Gangai Amman Temple on Thursday evening. The police rescued the child and handed him to Bhavani after verification.

“We are investigating into the case. If we find that Bhavani had staged a drama to sell her child, we will take action against her,” added the police officer.
