Another bomb was found on the busy East Marret Street in the heart of the city on Saturday.

On information, city Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad seized the parcel containing the bomb in front of the Madurai district AIADMK MGR Youth Wing office at around 7 pm.

An autodriver who came to unload goods at a private lorry service office, located next to the MGR youth wing office, found the package. When he went to check it, he suspected that it was explosive substance and alerted the police, said S Rajalingam, district secretary of the MGR youth wing and owner of the lorry service.

The police said a plastic box containing explosive substance used in firecrackers, four batteries, one pen-torch battery, timer, and wires connecting all of these was found. A safety switch was attached to the wires.

The box was kept alongside a soft-drink can full of  petrol. There were also two tiny jute bundles in the package, added the police.

The bomb was placed under an electricity post, but the miscreants had not turned on the switch. Otherwise, there would have been an explosion, said a police officer.
