A 23-year-old youth was arrested on charges of kidnapping a minor girl here at Athanur hamlet near Ulundurpet.

According to sources, 16-year-old Ramya (name changed), daughter of Selvam (42) of Athanur hamlet near Ulundurpet was in a relationship with Siva (23) of the same village for the past one year.

However, Ramya’s parents came to know about the relationship and did not approve of it. The parents, instead,  started looking for a suitable groom for her. Ramya was upset and informed Siva about the situation and asked him to rescue her.

On Saturday, when her parents had gone to their relative’s place, Siva took Ramya to his house and prevented her relatives from taking her back home.

Following the incident, her father lodged a complaint with the police. Police officials rescued the girl and handed her over to her parents.

Police booked the youth under the charges of kidnapping a minor girl and remanded him at the Ulundurpet sub-jail on Sunday.
