Attempt to Loot Grama Bank Fails

A gang of thieves attempted to rob the Pudduvai Bharathiar Grama Bank at Nettpakkam here in the early hours of Tuesday.

A gang of thieves attempted to rob the Pudduvai Bharathiar Grama Bank at Nettpakkam here in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Superintendent of Police (Rural) Deivasigamoni told the Express that the two-member gang had gained entry into the branch by cutting open the grills on top of the window.

After entering the bank, the members made the CCTV dysfunctional and tried to open the safety locker using gas cutters. However, as they tried to open the strong grill of safety locker, the burglar alarm started ringing. On hearing this, the gang fled from the scene.

A bank staff staying nearby and the police personnel from Nettapakkam police rushed to the spot. However, by that time, the robbers had vanished from the spot.

The Superintendent of Police said the police had got some vital clues about the gang involved and the thieves would be booked soon.

Later, the Superintendent of Police also spoke to the top officials of the bank and advised them to post security personnel for the banks.

The officials were also advised to install more CCTV cameras inside the bank and in the locker room.

The bank has got nearly 30 branches within the Union Territory.
