The AIADMK wanted officials of the registration department be probed for their alleged role in illegal selling/buying and transfer of lands attached to the government from the defaulters of tax arrears.

AIADMK State secretary A Anbazhagan said the attached properties were sold illegally by anti-social elements and politically influential persons by preparing forged documents in connivance with the officials of the registration department.

He said petrol bunk owners had owed nearly `228 crore for defaulting on payment of commercial taxes and the administration had attached the property. He said the government had issued a circular directing the enforcement authorities to ensure that properties belonging to defaulters should not be disposed and this was also communicated to the registration department.

But this direction has been ignored by the officials and properties were being sold violating all norms, he said, and demanded action against the officials helping to make fake documents.

Anbazhagan demanded that the registration department be revamped and officials responsible for verifying the genuineness of the records be enquired. He reiterated that cases be registered against Puducherry DMK convenor Dr M A S Subramanian in the purchase of land in his wife’s name allegedly using forged documents. He said the AIADMK would submit a memorandum to the Governor and DGP  in this regard.

He said the statement regarding the purchase of land by Dr Subramanian was to divert the attention of the government in the investigation. He said the SC had in 2006 given a direction in respect of the particular land and after that the same land was purchased in the name of his wife forging documents.
