Muslim Outfit Backs Jaya, Ready to Hit Election Trail

The Dravida Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (DMMK) has announced its unconditional support to the ruling AIADMK for the forthcoming Parliamentary election.

The Dravida Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (DMMK) has announced its unconditional support to the ruling AIADMK for the forthcoming Parliamentary election.

A decision to this effect was taken at the State general body meeting that was held here on Sunday, said DMMK president G S Iqbal who chaired the meeting.

Iqbal said that the ruling AIADMK government was doing well to instil a sense of pride among the people of this state towards achieving a true people’s rule and hence ‘we have decided to lend support to this party unconditionally for the Parliamentary election.”

He said that a 20-member team from his party would be formed to undertake intensive publicity campaign for the AIADMK party combine in the 40 constituencies to ensure total victory in the election.

While hailing the bold step taken by the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for the release of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, the DMMK  appealed to the Chief Minister to initiate similar steps for the release of the innocent Muslims who have been undergoing imprisonment in connection with the 1998 bomb blast case. Iqbal said that the Chief Minister should bring a new lease of life to the families of these convicts as well.

The party has also resolved not to support the Congress party which had been functioning against Muslims for their development. ‘The community used to enjoy reservation for the Muslims in all sectors since the British period and in the past 11 terms of the Congress rule so far, the Muslims were being used as ‘vote machines’ while denying support and help for the development of the minority community. The party has appealed to the State government to initiate all possible schemes and programmes to revive the Palar river that once used to be the lifeline of  north Tamilnadu. ‘The Palar River must be revived so that people of this region continue to receive uninterrupted drinking water while the entire region should become  green once again,’ said another resolution.

While condemning the communal disturbances unleashed by the ‘divisive forces’ led by the Gujarat Chief Minister Modi, another resolution urged the Muslim community to defeat such forces in the forthcoming elections.

The party has also decided to form a committee of religious leaders and legal experts under the aegis of ‘Tamilnadu Muslim Sunnath Jamath,’ to bring peace among the Muslim community families and to prevent unnecessary divorces.
