Special Depots for Fodder Get Good Response

Fodder supply through special depots introduced by the department of animal husbandry in five locations across the district has received good response from farmers.

According to officials, on an average 40 tonne of straw was being sold per day through all the five depots at `two per Kg and a farmer who owns five animals can purchase up to 105 Kg of straw in one week. The straw being obtained from  Salem and Andhra Pradesh are being purchased on a regular basis by around 250 farmers who have already been enrolled to these depots.

Farmers will also receive stalks of maize as and when they are available. The department is planning to establish two more depots in the district.
