Jaya Honours Brave Cops, Farmer for Rice Feat

As part of the Republic Day celebrations, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday presented Anna medals for gallantry to six police personnel, Gandhi Adigal police medal to four police personnel, Kottai Ameer award for communal harmony and a special award for a farmer who had obtained highest yield using rice intensification method.

As part of the Republic Day celebrations, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday presented Anna medals for gallantry to six police personnel, Gandhi Adigal police medal to four police personnel, Kottai Ameer award for communal harmony and a special award for a farmer who had obtained highest yield using rice intensification method.

The farmer N Parameswaran, Nasiyanur village, Erode district, received the special award for obtaining the highest yield in Tamil Nadu (6,110 kg/acre) using System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method. The award carries `5 lakh in cash and medal worth `3,500. The Anna medal for gallantry carries a cheque for `1 lakh, a medal worth `5,000 and a certificate.

V Karuppiah of Dindigul averted a major mishap by informing the Railway authorities about a crack on Karur-Dindigul track on October 21, 2013. Theppeswaran, from Vagarayampalayam in Coimbatore district, on May 21, 2013, helped the police in nabbing a gang of robbers who were fleeing after looting `24.60 lakh cash.

Late S Gopinath, on January 12, 2014,  rescued two children caught in turbulent sea waves near Sothavilai village in Kanyakumari district. In the effort, he was drowned in the sea.   SB Rahamathuallah, forest department, Krishnagiri district, on June 30, 2013, rescued a bear that had fallen into a well in Kannamur village.

Late A Gunendran, Fireman, Tiruchy district, on October 6, 2013, died while rescuing three cows caught in dangerous water current.  K Pechiammal, District Social Welfare Officer, Perambalur, has prevented 243 child marriages in Perambalur district amid stiff opposition. 

Kottai Ameer communal harmony award was presented to AR Basheer Ahamed of Coimbatore who has been striving hard for the maintenance of communal harmony in Coimbatore district by serving as a link to bring about peace between Muslims and Hindus. The award carries a medal, cheque for `25,000 and a certificate.

Four police personnel received the Gandhi Adigal Police Medal from the Chief Minister. The medal carries `20,000.

TP Sureshkumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Erode district, AV Mathi, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Central Investigation Unit (South), Chennai, S Periyasamy, Inspector, Central investigation unit, Salem Zone and R Devaraj, Head Constable-657, Appakoodal police station, Erode district received the award from the Chief Minister.
