Nagai Accused on Run for Seven Yrs Lands in Police Net

Seven years after getting bail in a murder case and absconding, a 35-year-old accused was arrested in Coimbatore on Monday by a special police team from Kariyapattinam police station.

NAGAPATTINAM:  Seven years after getting bail in a murder case and absconding, a 35-year-old accused was arrested in Coimbatore on Monday by a special police team from Kariyapattinam police station.

The accused Babu (35), son of Pakirisamy hailing from Thennampulam village near Vedaranyam was produced before the Vedaranyam judicial magistrate and was subsequently lodged in prison on Tuesday.

In 2007, the accused was charged with the murder of an AIADMK functionary Thyagarajan, a former panchayat president of Settipulam village near Vedaranyam. Besides, Babu was also facing charges of attempt to murder and rape. After obtaining conditional bail in the murder case in 2007, it is said Babu was absconding for the last seven years. As the Vedaranyam court had issued a warrant seeking his arrest, a team was formed  to nab him.

Meanwhile, Kariyapattinam police got information that Babu who had been skipping bail for the last seven years was found to be working as a manager in a private hotel situated at Velliangiri locality in Coimbatore district.

Subsequently, the special police arrested Babu on Monday. Later, he was produced before the Vedaranyam magistrate and lodged in prison on Tuesday.
