PUDUCHERRY: Activists of Periyar Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam staged a demonstration near the DGP’s office here demanding that an FIR be registered against two policemen allegedly involved in the molestation of two minor girls near Thavalakuppam a few days ago.

The activists led by Kazhagam leader Gokul Gandhiraj, attempted to picket the DGP office, but were prevented from proceeding further. The representatives were however allowed to submit a memorandum on the same. Gandhiraj said the errant policemen, Ganapathi (48) and Lenin K (26), had been placed under suspension, but no FIR registered against them.

He further alleged that the Thavalakuppam police refused to accept the complaint initially. No action was taken against the personnel who refused to accept the plaint. The activists claimed that the authorities were helping the two policemen escape from the charges by not registering an FIR. They also demanded action against the policemen who refused to receive the complaint. The activists handed over the complaint at the DGP’s office.
