VELLORE: Perarivalan, one of life convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, was taken to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital (GVMCH) for an echocardiogram test on Friday.

According to the Prison Department, Perarivalan was taken to the hospital at 7.35 am for the medical check. He was brought back and lodged in the prison at 8.15 am.

A senior doctor in the GVMCH said, they did  echocardiogram for Perarivalan as he was suffering from hypertension and back pain. “The test showed that he is fine,” said a doctor.

The Prison Department officials had taken him for the test following a suggestion from a doctor who checked him three days ago in the prison. “We do not have the facility to conduct echocardiogram test in the prison hospital. So, we sent him to the GH,” said a senior officer.
