PUDUCHERRY: A large number of people today paid their last respects at Escande Hall on the premises of the Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School here to Cardinal Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy who died at Rome last week.

The funeral 90-year-old Lourdusamy, who died on June 2, would be held here tomorrow at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in the vicinity of the school.

Among those who paid last respects to the Cardinal included Lt Governor Virendra Kataria, Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Ministers, MLAs and former Union Minister V Narayanasamy.

Puducherry government has declared holiday tomorrow for all government and privately managed schools as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

Apostolic Nuncio Most Rev Dr Salvatore Pennacchio who is the representative of the Pope would lead the funeral services.
