Lankan Navy Nabs 42 TN Fishermen

RAMESWARAM: Sri Lankan Navy on Sunday whisked away 42 fishermen of Rameswaram and Thangachimadam while they were fishing near Katchatheevu, a Fisheries Department official said here.

They also seized eight mechanised boats, M Gopinath, Rameswaram Fisheries’ Assistant Director, said. A group of fishemen from the two hamlets went for fishing in around 500 boats on Sunday morning. While fishing near Katchateevu, Lankan Navy personnel reached the spot and took away 42 of them, he said. According to Emrit, leader of Rameswaram fishermen association the arrested fishermen were taken to Mannar Naval base in Sri Lanka.
