PUDUCHERRY: Kumaran R, who hails from an agricultural family in Karikallampakkam, has secured the 689th rank in the civil services examination.

Kumaran (31) obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute (PAJANCOA&RI), Karaikal, affiliated to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, and Masters in Agricultural Economics from Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

After completing MBA from the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, campus interview paved his way to seed marketing MNCs. 

Currently, he is working as an agricultural officer in Puducherry.

Kumaran is married to a school teacher Usha. He said he managed to devote his time to preparations despite his official commitments. He added that the perseverance to crack the civil services, which was deep-rooted in him, finally helped him achieve success.

Kumaran is hopeful of joining IPS or IRS.

He had qualified the preliminary examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) during May 2013 and the Mains examination during December 2013. He attended the interview in May 2014 and the final result was declared on June 12.
