COIMBATORE: The recent kidnap and rape of two inmates at a children’s home run by Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church (TELC) at Pollachi, and its subsequent closure by the authorities has brought several other homes and orphanages under the government’s scanner.
Though the District Social Welfare Department was aware that the Pollachi home was functioning illegally, the closure order was served only after two of its inmates were kidnapped and sexually assaulted. The home had been served a notice in November, 2013, for not complying with norms. In December last year, the district administration had ordered closure of Home of Hope International in Ganapathy for operating without a licence.
