NAGERCOIL: A 21-year-old engineering student was arrested for allegedly biting the lips of a post graduate girl student from his college aboard a train, here on Friday.

According to Railway police, “The girl is a student of a private engineering college near Colachel. On Thursday night, she was aboard the Coimbatore Express at Nagercoil Junction to visit her native place in Tirupur. While she was waiting in a reserved compartment, A Anto Pravin Kumar (21), a resident of Azhagappapuramin here, joined her and started a conversation.”

As Anto was in an inebriated condition, the girl moved away from him. However, Anto followed her and grabbed her in his arms. Even before she could come to terms with what had happened, he bit her lips.

On hearing the cries of the girl, the co-passengers came to her rescue. On seeing them, Anto jumped out of the train. However, the passengers caught and handed him over to the Railway police. The girl was rushed to the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital.

A case under Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 2002, was registered against Anto and he was remanded in judicial custody.
