RSS Cadre Held for Holding Meet Without Police Nod

MADURAI: Police detained around 350 RSS cadre on the charge of assembling near Devipattinam beach in Ramanathapuram district without seeking prior permission on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, the swayamsevaks participated in a meeting organised for RSS cadre from South Tamil Nadu at Vivekananda School in Devipattinam.

After the meeting, they all marched to the beach and conducted another meeting. When the police learned about this, they rushed to the spot and asked them to disperse immediately, said a police official.

Later, they were arrested under the District Police Act and detained at a marriage hall. However, when they were formally released in the evening, the cadre refused to leave the hall, claiming they were arrested without any valid reason.

The members also conducted a prayer inside the hall late in the evening, said the police.

After police pacified them, they left for Vivekananda School.
