Federation of Rail Passengers’ Assn Seeks Amenities

A federation of rail passengers associations in and around Arakkonam has been constituted.

VELLORE: A federation of rail passengers associations in and around Arakkonam has been constituted.

According to Raghunathan, the spokesperson of the federation, the associations of Avadi, Pattabiram, Thiruninravur, Veppampattu, Tiruvallur, Kadambattur, Manavur, Thiruvelankadu, Arakkonam and Tiruthani have formed the federation to raise the voice of the rail passengers and ensure it is heard.

Raghunathan said at a meeting convened in this regard on Sunday that the federation has urged the Southern Railway to introduce electric trains between Arakkonam and Chennai once in 15 minutes.

He said the trains should have 12 bogies and additional platforms must be created in Chennai Central Station for the new trains.

Further Raghunathan said that the Arakkonam junction should be developed as a special junction with more focus on amenities for passenger .

All trains (mail/express ones) should stop at the Arakkonam and Tiruvallur stations. A separate rail division must be created, to cater to the needs of rail passengers of Chennai outer section, he added.

The federation  of rail passengers also underlined the need for creating a circular rail service linking Arakkonam, Tiruvallur, Chennai-beach, Tambaram, Chengalpattur, Kancheepuram, Tirumalpur, Thakkolam and Arakkonam areas.

Later, the officer-bearers of the passengers federation were also elected:

Moorthy was elected as  president and Naina Masilamani as the secretary.
