THOOTHUKUDI: Residents of Thathankulam near Srivaikundam on Monday submitted a petition to the district administration during the grievance day meeting demanding to withdraw the transfer of a headmistress, who was serving in a school in their village.

Thathankulam people in their petition said that Jeyasili Naveena, the Headmistress of TNDTA Middle School, was transferred recently against her will and demanded to withdraw the decision.

The petitioners said that many students with apt career guidance from Jeyasili joined the right colleges and have come up in their life well. She was like a guardian and guiding light for many children from our village.

One of her students, Prince, claimed that Jeyasili was a soft spoken person and had worked throughout her tenure in the Thathankulam for the welfare of the students and development of the institution.

During her 20 years of service, she had improved the condition and performance of many schools. Besides, she had also helped the village to produce many graduates.

Prince also said that she also strived hard to curb child labour by approaching parents and asking them to send their wards to the school.

The total strength of the Thathankulam school was 70 till a few years ago. But now more than 400 children even from nearby villages have joined the school, thanks to the untiring efforts of Jeyasili.

She still has one more year of service and till her retirement the HM should work in Thathankulam, residents demanded.
