TN: Woman Held for Murder of Granddaughter

DHARMAPURI: A 55-year-old woman was today arrested near here for allegedly murdering her granddaughter, police said.

Police said the woman's daughter, who was already having a daughter, had delivered another baby girl in March last year and the infant reportedly fell ill and died on April 13.

The body was buried the same day. However, the village health nurse, who was monitoring the baby's health, complained to police.

Following the chemical report based on the examination of the viscera of the body, police found that the baby was killed by feeding a poisonous substance, police said.

Investigations revealed that the woman had fed the baby 'cactus milk', police said, adding that she was arrested and lodged in the Salem jail after being remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.
