RS Bypoll: Only AIADMK Candidate's Nomination Found Valid

Stage is set for declaring AIADMK's A Navaneethakrishnan as the winning candidate in the bypoll to Rajya Sabha, as nominations of other four candidates were rejected Tuesday.

CHENNAI: Stage is set for declaring AIADMK's A Navaneethakrishnan as the winning candidate in the bypoll to Rajya Sabha, as nominations of other four candidates were rejected Tuesday.

When the nominations were taken up for scrutiny, four were found invalid and "it is announced that the nomination of A Navaneethakrishnan is found valid," Assembly Secretary and Presiding Officer for the bypoll A M P Jamaludeen said.

The last date for withdrawing nominations is June 26.

The bypoll for Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu was necessitated after a sitting DMK MP T M Selvaganapathy was disqualified, after he was convicted in a corruption case.

Navaneethakrishnan, former state Advocate General, had also served as Chairman of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
