State Panel Inspects Projects

VELLORE: The members of Tamil Nadu Assembly Estimate Committee inspected various projects in Arcot on Thursday. The committee was headed by A Papa Sundaram, Kulithalalai MLA and the members were S Kamaraja, R Srinivasan, Selvan, P Dhansing, V Neelagandan, S Palanisamy and MS Jawahirullah.

The panel visited the Arcot Bio-gas plant and advanced garbage management system and  reviewed them in the presence of the local MLA Srinivasan.  Arcot bio-gas plant is the first in the district. “The idea of the proposal is to give electricity to 250 street lights around Arcot,” said Srinivasan.

Later, the Arcot Girls Higher Secondary School was reviewed. The school headmaster K Sambasivam requested the committee members to provide desks and benches. He also requested that a new school building be built because the current building was 50 years old. The committee members inspected the mid-day meal and tasted the meals,  served to the students.

The committee then went to the Arignar Ann Women’s Arts and Science College and met the Principal M Beatrice Margaret and professors. The college principal explained about the lack of professors, classrooms and labs. The committee assured the college principal and professors that they would look into the matter seriously.

Later, a review meeting headed by Collector R Nanthagopal was held at the Collectorate office.
