In the second such incident in a week, an AIADMK functionary was chased and hacked to death in public.

Moses, 45, a functionary of the Thousand Lights area unit of the AIADMK, was murdered by an armed gang on Peters Road on Friday night. Moses was found lying in a pool of blood by passersby who alerted the police control room. He died on the way to hospital. Moses had left his house at Aziz Mulk Street on Friday night after informing his wife.

Later in the day, police arrested four persons whom the police said were acquainted with the victim. “They were having drinks in a TASMAC bar. It appears there was a heated argument between them that turned violent and the gang started hacking him with a knife. He was trying to flee when the four overpowered him and dropped a heavy stone on his head,” police said.

“He was stabbed in the stomach and also had suffered deep cut injuries on his legs. He was taken  to the Government Royapettah Hospital and doctors referred him to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. But, he died on the way,” said a policeman.

Three of the four arrested persons were identified as ‘Salna’ Sekar, Kutty and Jayakanthan. Police have also launched a hunt for their associate.

It was on Tuesday when I S Arumugam, an AIADMK functionary, was chased and hacked to death in daylight. Subsequently, Nellaiappan, another party functionary, who was picked up by Teynampet police for interrogation, committed suicide on Thursday for which his kin blamed police harassment.
