A departmental inquiry was today ordered against the Headmistress of a private elementary school here for allegedly chopping the hair of five fifth standard boys.

The headmistress Stellabai of Francis Xavier Elementary school at Muthazhupatti in the district told officials that she cut the hair for the benefit of the students who were constantly scratching their head, and had lice problem, officials said.

"I warned them several times, and they did not heed my advice and warning. Finally I had to do it as the other boys were also affected with lice and dandruff infection was spreading," she told the inquiry officials.

Some parents admitted that the boys' hair were infected and it was not taken proper care of "due to financial constraints". They claimed that the headmistress had cut the hair of 13 boys so far and had done it for the five boys yesterday.

Earlier late last evening, they also picketed the school and only dispersed after officials assured them that they would launch an investigation, sources added.
