A 25-year-old teacher and his friend were arrested and sent to jail for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl, police said. The victim was sent to a foster home as she refused to go with her parents.

Sakthivel (26), son of Ethiraj in Pazhaiyapet area, worked as a teacher in a private school in Krishnagiri town, where Vinitha (name changed), aged 17, from Katheri village near Kaveripattinam studied in class XII.

On December 4, last year, Vinitha left for school in the morning but did not return home. Her parents searched for her in several places including their relatives’ houses. Since December 4, Sakthivel was also reportedly missing.

Meanwhile, the parents came to know from various sources that Sakthivel has kidnapped Vinitha. In this connection, the girl’s mother lodged a complaint at the Kaveripattinam police station against Sakthivel. Inspector Jafar Hussain registered a case and searched for the girl.

On Sunday evening, Sakthivel landed in the police net when he was travelling on his motorcycle along with his friend. Police were conducting vehicle checks near Kaveripattinam junction road when Sakthivel crossed the area. He and his friend Sidhan (23) were arrested.

On interrogation, Sakthivel revealed that he had taken the girl and kept her in a house near Kaveripattinam. Police rushed to the spot and rescued the girl.

According to police, the two said they were in love with each other and Sakthivel intended to marry the girl. Police, however, rescued the girl as she was a minor.

Police on Monday sent the girl to the Krishnagiri government hospital for medical examination. Later, they asked her to go with her parents, but she refused even after they tried to convince her.

Police handed over the girl to a foster home in Dharmapuri. The next course of action would be decided after consulting the social welfare department and district administration, police said.
