LS Polls to be Held in a Single Phase in TN, Pondicherry on April 24

The Election Commission on Wednesday announced that the polling for the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry will be held in a single phase on April 24 and the counting will be held on May 16. The LS polls will be held in nine phases across the country.

By election to Alandur Assembly constituency also would be held on April 24.  The by-poll was necessitated due to the resignation of Panruti S Ramachandran.

The filing of nomination in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry begins on March 29 (Saturday) and the last date for filing nominations will be April 5 (Saturday).  Scrutiny of nomination will take place on April 7 (Monday) and the last date for withdrawing nominations will be April 9. 

The total number of voters in Tamil Nadu is 5.37 crore and the Election Commission has given the last opportunity to include the names of those eligible voters on March 9.  On that day, in all polling stations, applications for inclusion in the electoral rolls will be accepted.
