Narrow Escape for Couple as Car Rear-ends Lorry, Dragged

A couple travelling in a car was injured when their vehicle hit a lorry and was dragged along for some distance, near Ulundurpet on Tuesday. During inquiry, police found that the lorry driver didn’t notice the car and the couple couldn’t raise an alarm, since they had lost consciousness after their vehicle hit the lorry.

Police officers from Ulundurpet said, businessman Dhamodaran (48) from Villiyanur, Puducherry, and his wife Hemalatha (40) went to Rasipuram to meet their son, studying in a school there. They were returning to Puducherry in the car driven by Dhamodaran.

At A Kumaramangalam, on the Tiruchy-Chennai National Highway, the car rear-ended the lorry when Dhamodaran tried to overtake a vehicle.

The car got stuck in the lorry and was pulled along for about half-a-kilometre. Motorists, who were driving behind the lorry, rushed ahead and signalled the driver to stop the vehicle. The lorry halted and the driver was shocked to see the car stuck to his vehicle.

People gathered near the spot and informed the police. They also sent the victims to the Ulundurpet hospital in another car for treatment. They were discharged from the hospital in the afternoon. A case has been filed in the Ulundurpet police station.
