The VCK and PMK had organised public meetings to condemn the damaging of the statues of Dr Ambedkar and Ramswami Padayatchi at  Abishegapakkam, Pathukannu, Thuthipet and Thiruvandarkoil.

VCK had lodged a complaint against Guru with the Orleanpet police and provided the recordings of his speech. A complaint was also lodged by the PMK and Vanniyar Sangam activists against VCK leader Thirumavalavan.

“We verified the recordings of the speeches of both and registered cases under six sections of IPC against both the leaders,” Orleanpet police said. The sections charged were 153 A (a) (b) (c), 153 B (c), 295 A, 504, 505 (1) (b), (c) of the IPC.

The police also filed a case against PMK Lok Sabha candidate RKR Anantharaman, who also addressed the Vanniyar sangam function.

Meanwhile, VCK state organising secretary, Su Paavaanan submitted a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor Virendra Kataria urging him to take steps to withdraw the false cases foisted against VCK chief Thirumavalavan as per law.

In the memorandum, it was pointed out that Thirumavalavan’s speech did not border on inciting violence or communal clash or character assassination.
