AIADMK Councillor Killed by Gang to Avenge Kin’s Murder

A day after the ghastly murder of a AIADMK councillor by a gang, four persons were arrested here on Thursday.

A day after the ghastly murder of a AIADMK councillor by a gang, four persons were arrested here on Thursday.

Police said, Vellapandi, Thoothukudi AIADMK West Zone President and Councillor of ward 37 of Thoothukudi Corporation, was hacked to death on Wednesday in front of his office at Annanagar. A case was registered at Thoothukudi South Police Station.

Cops zeroed in on four identified as Mottaisamy, Kannan, Mariselvam from Kattunayakanpatti and Madhan from Annanagar. During interrogations, it came to light that that they were involved in the murder. On Thursday morning, all four were taken to the Thoothukudi Thermal Police station for further investigation.

However, sources claim that Munisamy, from Kattunayakanpatti, Narayanan and Sundar, both from Thoothukudi are the three main accuseds, who have not been arrested yet. All three are close relatives of those, who were murdered by Vellapandi in the past, police said. The slain councillor had allegedly murdered Thangaraj alias Bomb Thangaraj in 1994 at Shanmugapuram, Jeevananadham at Charles theatre in 1995 and Rajendra Kumar at Anna Nagar in 1998, police added.

Sources claimed that accused Narayan was Rajendra Kumar’s brother and Sundar was Bomb Thangaraj’s sibling. Munisamy was a gangster and a former member of Pattu gang. Police have launched a search for the three prime accused.

The funeral of Vellapandi was held on Thursday evening. His supporters broke glass panes of a showroom.
