All arrangements are ready for the special campaign scheduled for March 9 to provide one more opportunity to the eligible voters to include their names in the electoral rolls for the ensuing elections.

CEO Praveen Kumar held detailed discussions with all District Electoral Officers on Thursday through video-conferencing at the Secretariat on the arrangements for the special campaign since it would be held in all 60,417 polling stations across the State. The discussions lasted for around three hours.

On March 9, the electoral roll pertaining to each polling station would be pasted there and the voters can check whether their names are in the rolls or not.  If they find that their names are wrongfully deleted, they can fill Form 6 for inclusion and hand it over the Booth Level Officer, who would verify and send the forms to the EROs, within 11 days.

The eligible voters would be issued voters slip using which they could exercise their franchise. Further, eligible voters could also apply for inclusion till March 25. For this, they have to approach zonal offices in Chennai and in other places, they can apply in the taluk offices.  As of now, Chennai District has a total voting strength of 36,36,199 consisting of 18,13,076 males, 18,22,461 females and 662 other voters with the last summary revision released in January adding a total of 2,32,199 voters.

Official sources said deletion would only be undertaken in rarest cases such as death of an elector, suo motu by the election department. Following the enforcement of model code of conduct, the labels with Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s picture pasted over the Amma Mineral Water bottles are removed before sales.
