The Static Surveillance Team (SST), which was set up to seize gift items, cash and liquor to bribe voters, caught two persons, who were possessing a country-made gun and explosive material during the late hours of Thursday.

The two, Karnan and Velu, both aged 48, were residents of Pasmarpenda. They were caught by the SST during a vehicle check. The team intercepted the motorbike  borne duo near Pernambut  about 11.30 pm and frisked them. The SST found the two carrying a country-made gun and ball bearings used as bullets, along with explosive powder and a flash light. On inquiry, the two told the SST that they were on their way to the forest area to hunt wild animals. Later, the SST handed over Velu and Karunan to the local police.

The police officials registered a case against them under the Indian Arms Act and apprehended them.

“It was the first seizure made by the SST, which was constituted to check and seize gift items, cash and liquor to bribe voters,” said an official in the district election branch in Vellore.
