A 32-year-old mason, who had allegedly raped a nine-year-old school girl, has been arrested by the police on Sunday.
The accused has been identified as one Sekar (32), a resident of Mottur village, near Kaveripattinam in the district. He is a mason by profession, working at a construction site, near Mittahalli Pudhur village.
The culprit raped Kala (name changed) from the same village, when she was returning home from school on Wednesday.
The victim is studying in the fourth standard in a government-aided private school in the area.
The accused forcefully took the victim to an under- construction house site in the outskirts of the village. After raping the minor girl, he left her on the street and fled the spot.
Kaveripattinam police inspector Jaffer Hussain registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents.
With the identification provided by the girl, the police first took three persons, including Sekar, in the custody. On interrogating the three, police finally zeroed in on Sekar, as their were discripancies in his statement.
