Election flying squads across the state continue to have a busy time as cash was seized from different places on Monday as well.

Police seized Rs 20 lakh being transported in different vehicles without proper documents in Pollachi.

In the first incident in the Texcity, officials recovered Rs 8.5 lakh from Shajahan (42) at P Chinnampalayam on the Pollachi-Valparai road. Shajahan, a native of Alappuzha, was heading to Palladam with the money. He failed to produce proper documents to prove his claim. The seized cash was later handed over to the flying squad personnel.

A sum of Rs 7.30 lakh was seized from Abu Bucker (29) of Kozhikode, at Rangapudur pirivu on Palladam-Pollachi road. Abu claimed he was taking the money for his poultry business at Negamam in the district.

Similarly, officials seized Rs 2.94 lakh from Tamilselvan (24) of Chittode in Erode district at Kattampatty pirivu. Tamilselvan, driver of a poultry vehicle, told officials the amount was paid to him for delivering chicken and eggs at Tirur in Kerala.

Election officials seized Rs 1.16 lakh from A Kathiravan (44), who was at wheel of another poultry vehicle in the same area.

The entire cash seized from the quartet was handed over to the treasury office in Pollachi. It can be re-claimed by producing proper documents, officials said.

Nearly Rs 7.30 lakh was seized by officials in Dharmapuri on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, flying squad officials seized Rs 3.40 lakh from one Udhayakumar (40) of Bangalore, at the Thoppur pass toll gate. Similarly, Rs 2 lakh was seized from Ramkumar (39), another Bangalore resident at the same spot.

Palacode Block Divisional Officer Krishnakumar seized Rs 1.90 lakh from a car, owned by Senthilkumar who was en route to Krishnagiri from Hogenakkal.

In Namakkal, squads seized Rs 12.21 lakh, ferried without valid documents. In Rasipuram, a flying squad confiscated Rs 2.21 lakh from a passenger, R Nelson Mandela of Reddy Street, Tambaram, Chennai, while checking a Namakkal bound omnibus at Koneripatti.

Likewise, in Salem district, flying squads seized over Rs 3 lakh on Monday. The seized money was handed over to Election Officials.
