The Opposition Congress and the AIADMK vented their ire on the AINRC government for convening the session after the Model Code of Conduct came into effect, by staging separate walkouts from the house.

As soon as the house assembled, leader of Opposition V Vaithilingam said the Assembly was not functioning in a democratic way and they had no confidence on Speaker V Sabapathy. The Speaker after giving an assurance of providing opportunity to the members to raise issues concerning people, had convened the Assembly after the announcement of Lok Sabha elections, he said. Stating that it was a deliberate attempt by the Speaker to deny the members the opportunity to raise issues, the Congress protesting against the chair, staged a walkout.

When the AIADMK members raised the same issue, the Speaker saying that obituary references should have to be taken before any business, moved on to condolence resolution. The house condoled the demise of former MLA Rajasekhar Odayar and Veerammal by observing two minute silence.

Immediately thereafter, Om Sakthi Segar (AIADMK) questioned the Speaker on the rationale behind convening the first session of the Assembly in the current year without the Governor’s address. He sought an answer for not convening the session a month ago. Protesting against it, he along with another AIADMK member L Periyasamy staged a walkout.  Thereafter Anbazhagan started his argument on the conduct of the House without the Lt Governor’s address. Protesting against the Speaker for not giving opportunity to members to discuss the bill, the rest of the AIADMK members also staged a walkout.
