A case of Model Code of Conduct violation was filed against DMK candidate for the Puducherry constituency A M H Nazeem by the Kalapet police.
As per the police records, Nazeem had proceeded with an election rally from Kalapet towards Puducherry in carcades and thereby violated the Model Code of Conduct.
Nazeem was in Puducherry to participate in the Assembly session on Wednesday. The case was filed following a complaint by flying squad leader Sivaraj, executive magistrate and Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) of the election cell, on Tuesday.
According to police, Nazeem, who was welcomed by the party cadre, proceeded from Kalapet to Puducherry accompanied by more than 10 vehicles, which is in violation of the model code of conduct. Following submission of the necessary records by the flying squad chief, Sivaraj and after getting the required nod from the office of the District Election Officer, an FIR has been filed, police said. DMK had named A M H Nazeem, party’s sitting MLA from Karaikal region, as its candidate for the lone Puducherry seat on Monday. Nazeem (53), elected from Karaikal (South), is also the leader of DMK legislature party in the Assembly.
