The Election Commission has increased the polling timings by two hours, giving voters 11 hours to exercise their franchise.

Under the new stipulation, polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm. Conveying this at a press conference on Thursday, Chief Electoral officer (CEO) T Srikanth said it has been communicated by the EC and would be included in the election notification on March 29.

Speaking about candidates contesting in the polls, he said: “The candidates have to upload their affidavits within 24 hours of filing nominations on the CEO’s website. They should also disclose their social media accounts.”

Stating that the Elections Department is keeping a close watch on the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations, CEO said that 14 more complaints of violations has come to the notice of the department.
