DMK Whip on Madurai Links

The suspension of south zone organising secretary and party patriarch M Karunanidhi’s son, M K Alagiri, seems to have done little to ease tensions within the DMK.

Apparently rattled by a string of meetings held by Alagiri in a number of places, party general secretary K Anbazhagan on Wednesday threatened disciplinary action against any party member who maintains any contact with Alagiri.

“I would like to say with utmost strictness that no one, irrespective of their place in the party, should have any contact with Mr Alagiri, who has been suspended from the party on disciplinary grounds,” read Anbazhagan’s statement. It also said that the party would not tolerate behaviour not in line with its maxim of ‘kadamai, ganniyam, kattupaadu’ (Duty, Dignity and Discpline). “Mr Alagiri has been holding gatherings at a number of places under the pretext of meeting supporters. This is pushing well-wishers of the party deep into confusion.”
