MK Concerned with Family ‘Quota’: Jaya
Charging that DMK president M Karunanidhi has sacrificed reservation issue to ensure ‘reservation’ for his family members in the Union Cabinet, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has said Karunanidhi had no concern about any ideological issues including reservation and selfishness had been his watchword.
Addressing an election meeting at Tenkasi on March 19, the AIADMK supremo referred to the concerns expressed in the DMK election manifesto that even after 17 years, the recommendations of the Mandal Commission on reservation issue had not been implemented in full.
The manifesto said only 14 per cent of reservation was being implemented in A,B,C and D Groups in the Central government and that the DMK would strive to rectify this.
Pointing out that Mandal Commission recommendations had been implemented since 1993, Jayalalithaa said despite being in power at the Centre, the DMK had failed to raise its voice for total implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations.
“Karunanidhi should explain to the people that whether this recommendations were implemented at least in the Union Ministries which were intieally held by DMK Ministers”, Jayalalithaa said.
The DMK president had received ‘resourceful ministries’ including Telecommunication for his grandson and other DMK men in the Union Cabinet.
Karunanidhi did not hesitate to seek the support of the Congress party for his daughter Kanimozhi’s victory in the Rajya Sabha seat.
“Why was Karunanidhi silent on the total implementation of Mandal Commission?...it was because, reservation of backward classes was not an important issue for Karunanidhi...he was more concerned about the ‘reservation’ for his family members in the Union Cabinet”, the Chief Minister added.
Jayalalithaa charged that it has become clear from the DMK manifesto that after all Karunanidhi had indeed sacrificed the reservation issue for selfish motives.
