Tamil Nadu to Set Up Industrial Park: Jayalalithaa

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Friday said the government has decided to set up an industrial park here for food processing, engineering and printing industries.

She also questioned the DMK's commitment to its promise of nationalisation and inter-linking of rivers as the party did not do anything towards that when it was part of the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

Addressing an election rally here, 525 km from Chennai, Jayalalithaa said: "The government is taking steps to set up an industrial park for food processing, engineering and printing industries."

She said the park would come up in an area of 3,400 acres. She also listed the other measures taken by the government for development of Virudhunagar.

Referring to the DMK's poll promise of nationalisation and inter-linking of rivers, Jayalalithaa said: "The DMK was part of the central government since 1996. The party has been mentioning this promise in all its manifestos."

She said DMK president M. Karunanidhi has not done anything for inter-linking of rivers.

Referring to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's opposition to inter-linking of rivers saying it is dangerous and would affect the environment, Jayalalithaa said the DMK has not even objected to that statement.

Jayalalithaa also came down heavily on the economic policies of the Congress-led UPA government and said the centre had betrayed the interests of the state by its various acts.

She said the ensuing election is to end family rule and bring in people's rule.
