“En vazhi, thanee vazhi !” (I tread my own unique path) has been a famed oneliner of iconic actor Rajnikant. Though it masked a Hamletian dilemma, it had helped keep the suspense over the ever-dying expectations about his political entry.

Till the 2011 Assembly elections, his ardent fans as well as people in general, were anxious over which way the ‘Rajni Voice’ would go. This time around the expectation has come down even as there is no clamour for that from political parties, except for the initial enthusiasm from the BJP.

Going by the apparent indifference of fans over their matinee icon’s political preference in this Lok Sabha elections, it is clear that they do not entertain much hope. For, despite a huge fan following, the actor has avoided taking the political plunge. It was during the 1996 Assembly elections that the ‘Rajini voice’ was believed to have had an impact on the results.

In the past, even when egged on by restless fans, he remained indecisive. The famous one-liners in his films alone served as the message from him. And they took it as offering a glimmer of hope about the possibility of the actor entering politics. Rajnikant’s friendship cuts right across the political spectrum. Cho Ramaswamy once commented that politics will not suit Rajni. Will the curtains be down with this poll? Only Superstar can answer this!
