Powerloom Weavers Call Off Agitation

The powerloom weavers have called off their indefinite strike on Tuesday as the tripartite talks at the office of Joint Commissioner of Labour (JCL) in Coimbatore decided to revise the weaving charge by 30 per cent and 27 percent respectively for two varieties.

About 30,000 job working power loom units in Tirupur and Coimbatore districts took part in the strike and about `40 crore worth production was lost  per day.

The president of Tirupur district Job working Power loom Weavers Association, Velusamy, said, “The Joint Commissioner of Labour has declared for 30 per cent wage hike for Somanur variety and 27 per cent hike for other varieties.”

Following the announcement of the Joint Commissioner of Labour all the representatives of job working units from nine hubs of both Coimbatore and Tirupur districts accepted the announcement and decided to call off the agitation on the 33rd day of the indefinite strike.
