Student Kills Self over Poor show in Test

A 22-year-old third year BSc student of Loyola College committed suicide here on Monday, after he was distraught by his poor show in academics in the previous semesters.

Police said Chellapillai, 22, had failed in several subjects and was apparently scolded by his parents. He kept to himself after his return from his native district Salem on Sunday and none of his friends knew about his return. Subsequently, his family checked his whereabouts through his friends who found him hanging from the ceiling of his residence in Choolaimedu. A case was registered and further investigations on.

3 Held for Murder

Three persons including the wife of a notorious history-sheeter booked under Goondas Act and  his son were arrested by the police. They  were suspected to have been involved in the murder of a painter reported last week at Semmencherry,

Police said the three were picked up from their house in the suburbs where they had taken shelter after murdering Mohan, a painter and resident of Tsunami Nagar on March 17. Two others involved in the murder had turned up in a court in Tambaram earlier. The murder was the outcome of a previous enmity following a clash involving the painter and Dhimmas alias Lakshmanan, a few months ago over a gambling issue. Dhimmas who was a history-sheeter was slapped with Goondas Act and was lodged in Puzhal Prison. His wife Vijaya, her son Saravanan and his friend Vijayakumar hatched plans and executed the murder.

Explosive Racket

Policemen attached to the Tiruvannamalai unit of the Organised Crime Intelligence Unit (OCIU) busted a network of illegal sale of explosives in the open market by a licensed dealer in Tiruvannamalai. 

The explosive materials comprised 3,800 electronic detonators and 4,000 slurries weighing 500 kg and arrested two persons in connection with the crime.
