A day after he was expelled from the party his family wields nearly absolute control over, former DMK south zone organising secretary M K Alagiri paid a visit to the Gopalapuram residence of his father and party patriarch, M Karunanidhi. But the visit, however, was planned in a way that Alagiri could visit his mother, Dayalu, while his father was out campaigning.
Alagiri had reached Chennai on Wednesday morning, and had proceeded straight to Arani. He returned to Chennai and reached the Gopalapuram residence shortly after his father departed about 5 pm. Alagiri met his mother, who has been having health troubles in recent times. He enquired about her health in the short meeting, according to sources. Alagiri then quickly departed. This is the second time that Alagiri has visited Gopalapuram to meet his mother, and not met his father.
While this visit came a day after he was expelled from the DMK, the previous visit had taken place on January 24, the day after he had been suspended from the party.
