Scenic Pollachi is set to witness a four-cornered contest this time, with Dravidian rivals AIADMK and DMK, Congress and the KMDK in the fight to win the voters.

The AIADMK which has won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha election is now facing a tough fight from DMK strong man in the district Pongalur N Palanisamy and KMDK candidate in the BJP-led alliance E R Eswaran and Congress candidate K Selvaraj.

This is the second election after the Pollachi constituency was converted from Reserved Status to general status in 2009 Lok Sabha election after delimitation.

In the last 10 Lok Sabha elections since 1977, the AIADMK had won six elections and proved that it is the party’s fort.

It’s been a tough contest for the forthcoming LS elections in Pollachi constituency as the big political faces have been nominated.

Pongular N Palanisamy who held Industry and Animal Husbandry portfolios during the previous DMK regimes was nominated by the DMK. President of Kongnadu Makkal Desiya Katchi E R Eswaran, who belongs to the dominant Goundar community in the region, is contesting the polls in the BJP-led alliances with the strong support of MDMK, DMDK and PMK.

The sitting MP K Sugumar who won the 2009 LS poll by securing 3,05,935 votes defeating DMK’s K Shanmugasundaram, was denied a ticket by the party high command, who is replaced by C Mahendren this time.
